Zimbabwe Artisan Alliance Featured Giraffes

There's something so unique and interesting about giraffes. From their long necks to their patterns on their coat. Below are some of our current featured giraffe pieces.

"The Duellists" by Garth Swift

"Giraffe hold a special place in my heart-they are the most beautiful graceful creatures and their huge, gentle almond eyes often seem to gaze upon us lowly creatures with a hint of mirth and peacefulness as if to say "....go quietly and leave no trace". One sees them often alone or in pairs or groups; on the plains, in thickets of trees reaching up to get that morsel, or waiting patiently for their turn to drink while others get their fill. They are also seen occasionally "necking" two males fighting for dominance by crashing their necks, or the horns on their heads together. Fortunately this practice seldom leads to injury.

I think an image of these animals on a grassy plain underneath a dark sky with towering clouds is Africa showing her heart."

"Giraffes At Etosha" by Garth Swift

""Etosha"...from the Oshindonga word meaning "great white place" brings to mind something fantastical and other worldly, and anyone who's been there knows what a remarkable place it is-a large dry lake in the wilderness of northern Namibia, fringed with isolated waterholes and a huge variety of African wildlife. Giraffe have a special place here and sometimes drift in large herds across the dry landscape, seeming to follow one another from one place to the next; and there are always ostrich, those large flightless birds who wander singularly or in flocks across the savannah."
